Bharti Airtel has downsized the number of cities that are currently allowed to invite Airtel Xstream Fiber to their neighborhood by 75% in the recent few weeks. While back in May Airtel allowed over 650 cities to invite Airtel Xstream Fiber to its neighborhood the same is now down to 159. When Airtel had initially launched the ‘Invite Now’ program the number of cities was somewhere around 530 cities.
Airtel has since the start of the year focused on local cable operator (LCO) driven model to expand and go deep in tier 2 and tier 3 cities with Airtel Xstream Fiber already launched in over two dozen cities with the aforesaid model.
Airtel is further currently aiming on launching in another 56 cities with the same LCO driven model. With JioFiber revamping its plans and announcing the bugle in the wired broadband space, the expansion and penetration of wired broadband will increase at a better speed.
Airtel earlier had many cities including remote areas in the North East, Goa, Lakshwadeep and other states on its shortlist. Airtel seems to have made a smaller shortlist of priority cities for expansion after seeing the probable demand of Airtel Xstream Fiber.
Airtel will be expanding on a very big scale through the LCO model in the next 6-12 months with Airtel confident about the success rate of the model wherein the billing, plan, customer relationship is managed by Airtel while the last mile fiber will be managed by the local cable operator for which they get the revenue.
These are the 159 cities wherein prospective customers can invite Airtel Xstream Fiber to their neighbourhood.
