Vi deploys additional 5 MHz of 2100 MHz spectrum in Mumbai to increase 4G bandwidth

Vodafone Idea Limited today announced the successful deployment of additional 5 MHz of 2100 MHz band spectrum to increase the total 4G bandwidth in Mumbai telecom circle through refarming of 3G spectrum to 4G spectrum across all sites in Mumbai substantially enhancing GIGAnet 4G capacity in the city.

Vi customers in Mumbai as a result will get to enjoy higher download and upload speeds apart from better indoor coverage with refarming of 3G spectrum to 4G giving Vi GIGAnet 4G wider coverage, network quality, and stronger traffic capacity in Mumbai. The company further stated that it would continue to offer 2G services in Mumbai.

“The network augmentation initiative was mandated to offer our customers an enhanced 4G data experience to complement their data demand. Supplementing the existing 4G infrastructure with the expansion on 2100 MHz layer has brought about enhanced data speeds, besides a better indoor network experience for Vi customers in Mumbai. We request all Vi 3G customers to visit the nearest retail outlet at the earliest to upgrade to a 4G SIM, free of cost and  start experiencing the full potential of Vi GIGAnet 4G”.

Out of the 1,724 MHz liberalised spectrum holding on a pan India basis, the company has 10 MHz of liberalised spectrum holding in Mumbai circle in the 2100 MHz band. The company also has liberalised spectrum holdings in 2500 MHz, 1800 MHz, and 900 MHz in Mumbai telecom circle.

Vodafone Idea Limited has urged all 3G Vi customers in Mumbai to visit the nearest retail outlet at the earliest to upgrade to a 4G SIM, free of cost and start experiencing Vi GIGAnet 4G.
