MediaTek, the Taiwanese semiconductor company which has already launched a slew of 5G SoCs this year at its Executive Virtual Summit 2020 event announced its latest 7nm based 5G enabled Dimensity 700 chipset.

The MediaTek Dimensity 700 is an octa-core processor including two ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2GHz, and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz while the GPU is a Mali-G57 MC2 clocked at 950MHz. It supports up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM at a frequency of 2,133MHz, and UFS 2.2 two-lane storage with transfer speeds of up to 1Gbps.

“With our expanded Dimensity portfolio we’re bringing the latest 5G capabilities to every smartphone tier so more people can enjoy 5G experiences,” said Dr. JC Hsu, Corporate VP and GM of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit.

The chip includes connectivity features including 5G Carrier Aggregation (2CC 5G-CA) and 5G dual SIM dual standby (DSDS) with download speeds of up to 2.77Gbps. It also has 5G-exclusive Voice over New Radio (VoNR) services for better audio and video call quality. For display, it supports up to  2520 x 1080 pixels resolution and 90Hz refresh rate.

It can support 48MP or 64MP primary camera sensor with features such as AI-bokeh, AI-color and AI-beauty. MediaTek says that this chip has integrated hardware-based imaging accelerators to enable multi-frame noise reduction so that users can capture good quality shots even in low lighting conditions.

For power efficiency, the chip comes with MediaTek 5G UltraSave, which manages the operating mode of the 5G modem to enhance battery life. Multiple voice assistants support, support for dual-frequency GPS, and India’s NavIC are also supported.

The MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset will start rolling out in the first quarter of next year in phones priced at $250 (about Rs 18,000) or lower.
