The DoT has released the end of day report for Day 1 of the auction. A total of 4 clock rounds were completed between 10 Am and 6 Pm. Out of the total 2308.80 MHz of spectrum that was put up for sale, DoT has received bids for 849.20 MHz on day 1, which is 60% of the available spectrum excluding the 700 MHz and 2500 MHz bands which did not see any demand on day 1. Interestingly all spectrum that was sold, went at base price only, as the demand did not exceed the availability in any circle in any band in all 4 rounds.

In the 850 MHz band 60% of the total spectrum that was put up for sale attracted bids from the operators. The demand was less than the availability in all circles except for Jammu & Kashmir, North East and Assam which saw no bids.

In 900 MHz band, 35% of the total spectrum attracted bids. The demand was equal to availability in Gujarat and Kerala and less than the availability in Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, North East, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, UP East and West Bengal circles. The remaining circles did not see any demand.

In the 1800 MHz band the demand was equal to availability in Odisha circle and less than the availability in all other circles except for Rajasthan which saw no bids in all 4 rounds.

In the 2100 MHz band the demand was less than the availability in Assam, North East and West Bengal circles, while all other circles did not attract any bids in all 4 rounds.

In the 2300 MHz band the demand was equal to the availability in all circles except Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Kolkata, Mumbai and Tamil Nadu where the demand was less than the availability, but this is the only band which saw bids for all circles.

Even though there was no excess demand at the end of round 4, the bidding activity will continue tomorrow for maybe another 2 rounds which may be the last day of the Auction. We may see the provisional results as early as tomorrow.

    • According to Day 1 Report, the entire 4.2 MHz available in 900 MHz band in Gujarat is sold. Now whether it has been picked up by Airtel or Vi that isn’t clear but chances are more in Airtel’s favour.

    • No minimum 5 MHz would be required, unless they do a spectrum trading or sharing agreement with Vi.

    • You are correct, Airtel uses 3 mhz only for LTE in Rajasthan, may be narrow band 4G technology, somthing like Telenor did in past in Gujarat.

    • Yes, like Kirit said it could be narrow band LTE, but u would only get sub par quality of 4G with narrow band deployment. Telenor and videocon did it coz they didn’t have any other option.

    • in kolkata also airtel uses 3 mhz of Band 8 and thus service quality is not good. One can only get signal and for calling time, band 8 vanished.
Minimum 5 mhz is required for calling in band 8 . hope that airtel makes it atleast 5 mhz in kolkata for band 8

  1. please inform about Band 8 and Band 5 holding of airtel in its weak circles Like Kerala, Gujarat, Maharastra, Haryana, MP, UP (W)
Some one has won Gujarat and UP (E) Band 8 – Guess who it will be ?
In TN total 10 Mhz Band 8 won .

    • Yes in Gujarat and Kerala Airtel will get 900 MHz spectrum and in Haryana and Maharashtra it will get 850 MHz. In Tamilnadu mostly Airtel and Vi will get 5 MHz each in 900 MHz band.

    • Only Airtel has sent across the winning release as of now, Vi’s release just mentioned that they won in 5 circles, not the details. Jio’s will be next, keep checking
