Flipboard for Android updated with Audio support and performance improvements

Flipboard for Android finally gets Audio support along with the Sound Cloud integration with the latest version 1.9.7 update. Flipboard for iPhone and iPad got audio support back in May, but the first official version of Flipboard for Android that launched did not have the audio support. The new update finally brings audio support from SoundCloud and radio programming from NPR and Public Radio International (PRI) that lets you explore the new Audio category in the new content guide while reading their Flipboard. This update also includes bug fixes and performance improvements.

Rockstar has just announced that, following the success of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be up for sale on the App Store and Google Play marketplaces starting later this fall. A precise release date was not announced.

That’s right, you’ll be able to tool around in this over-the-top take on 1980s Miami near the 10 year anniversary of the original game’s launch. GTA: Vice City launched on October 29th, 2002. If that doesn’t make you feel old, I’m not sure what will.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is one of my favorite entries in the entire franchise. It’s not the storyline, the locale, the characters or the gameplay that make Vice City so special to me. Instead, it’s the era of the game and the soundtrack that make it so awesome. In fact, out of all games with licensed soundtracks, I’d argue that the one for Vice City stands tall among the best.

No price point was announced for the mobile version of Vice City, but, if we go off of what GTA III launched at, the game will sell for $4.99.

While not announced in the post by Rockstar Games, the iOS versions of Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars are both currently selling for just $0.99. At the time of drafting this post, the Google Play versions of both games remain at their full price.

Google's Music Explorer hits the Play store, recommends artists based on...​

When we got a look at the new Nexus 10 running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, we expected Google's Music Explorer feature would slot into the Play store alongside the OS update. As it turns out, the feature has been quietly implemented, so you can now check out similar artists from within another's catalogue. We had a fiddle with it, but weren't particularly impressed -- you can only see three similar artists in the bubble-like UI at any one time, with no explanation of why they are linked together, or how the recommendations are decided. Some people will probably appreciate the casual browsing experience, but we found it a little too uninformative. Of course, you can make up your own mind by grabbing your tab and heading for the Play store. Just don't be surprised if the whole experience ends up bursting your bubble.

Lyrics Available in Winamp for Android

Tired of mumbling the words to your favorite songs? Now you don't have to! The Lyrics add-on for Winamp for Android displays lyrics and automatically scrolls in time with the song you're listening to (lyric synchronization is not available on all songs). Available now in the Google Play store for only $2.99.

To get the Lyrics, download the latest version of Winamp for Android (v1.4) from Google Play. Launch Winamp and from the Home screen tap on the icon for the Winamp Store and then select Lyrics from the list of add-ons.

Ad-blocking app Adblock Plus now available for Android

The popular browser add-on Adblock Plus, used for blocking online advertising, is now available for Android devices. The open-source project released the first version of its Android app on November 27.
The free app is available on Google Play for free as a 1.8MB download. Users without access to Google PLay on their Android devices can download it from the AdBlock Plus for Android website.
AdBlock Plus "works in background and filters out ads in almost all Android browsers and apps. Android 2.1 and higher is supported, the app uses the same filter lists as the Adblock Plus browser extensions," says a post on the AdBlock Plus blog.
