Carbon for Android potentially days away according to developers

Carbon for Android potentially days away according to developers

carbon-android_1.jpg

Carbon for Android has been a long time coming, and has to be one of the more hotly anticipated apps of recent times. While the original projected release date may have come and gone, no-one can deny that the developers, Dots and Lines, have been working hard to complete. A recent tweet posted to the official Carbon for Android account gives further hope that soon we'll be able to try it for ourselves.

Turns out, that we might only be a few days away from launch;

Exciting news for sure. The Twitter client space has seen some interesting competitors in recent months such as Boid and Tweet Lanes, but it's no secret that this is the one a lot of people are going to want. And of course, it's going to be free.

Angry Birds maker pins hopes on Bad Piggies

Bad-Piggies-JPG.jpg

Angry Birds maker Rovio will be hoping to prove it's no one-hit wonder when it launches Bad Piggies on Thursday, just as players seem to be tiring of the game they've been addicted to for the past three years.

The new game will feature pigs which strike back at the birds who attacked them with slingshots in Angry Birds.

A hit on app stores would give the Finnish company a boost as it looks to a possible stock market flotation next year. Some analysts put its market value at between $6 billion and $9 billion, nearly on a par with another top Finnish tech name, phone maker Nokia Oyj.

Rovio was founded in 2003 and became a global phenomenon after it launched Angry Birds for Apple's iPhone in late 2009.

The highly-addictive game helped Rovio's sales jump 10-fold to $100 million last year, a fraction of the 38.7 billion euros ($50.2 billion) which Nokia chalked up.

It has remained at the top of gaming charts, with more than a billion downloads, and had 200 million monthly users at the end of 2011. That compares for instance with the 240 million attracted by offerings from US-based Zynga, such as the Facebook -based Farmville.

But there are signs Rovio is losing its momentum.

Amazing Alex, the first non-Angry Birds game in more than two years from Rovio, hit no. 1 on download charts in July but has since slumped to outside the top 50, while Angry Birds Space has dropped fast from the top-grossing lists.

"Rovio needs a big hit right now. Over the past two months, Rovio's revenue-generation ability has suddenly slipped badly," said analyst Tero Kuittinen from Finnish mobile analytics firm Alekstra.

Chrome for Android update brings Google browser to Intel-powered smartphones

While the Motorola RAZR i hasn't yet hit stores, when it does, it'll now be able to tap into the Chrome Mobile app, following its latest update. We're putting the Intel-powered Android 4.0 phone through the review wringer right now, but have already noticed the lack of Chrome browser support.

Due to the way Intel x86-based devices run apps, the browser required some adjustments, which are now complete. At the moment, the only existing phone that officially runs Android 4.0 on a Medfield processor is the incoming RAZR i, but now any future Intel smartphones will also get the full Chrome experience -- and Motorola gets to keep its promise of preinstalling the browser on its new devices.
