Oppo A78 5G with MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC, 6.5-inch HD+ display, 5000mAh battery launched in India

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has launched the Oppo A78 5G smartphone in India. The phone features a 6.5-inch HD+ IPS display, dual rear cameras, MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC, 5000mAh battery, 5G connectivity, and runs on the Android 13 operating system with ColorOS 13 customization on top. Further, the Oppo A78 5G has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication.

Oppo A78 5G specifications

The Oppo A78 5G features a 6.5-inch HD+ (1612 x 720 pixels) IPS display with a 20:9 aspect ratio, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 100-percent DCI-P3 color gamut. The phone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 700 (7nm) chipset paired with Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and 128GB of UFS2.2 onboard storage. The device also supports a microSD card of up to 1TB via a dedicated slot for expandable storage.

In terms of optics, the Oppo A78 5G sports a dual rear camera setup of a 50-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. For taking selfies and making video calls, the phone has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture lens. The phone packs a non-removable 5000mAh battery that supports 33W SuperVOOC fast charging technology.

Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth version 5.3, 4G VoLTE, 5G connectivity with n1/n5/n8/n28A/n41/n78 bands, GPS/ A-GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C 2.0 port for charging and OTG. Sensors include an accelerometer, magnetometer, proximity, gyroscope, ambient light, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

Lastly, the phone measures 163.8 × 75.1 × 7.99 mm and weighs 186 grams.

Pricing and availability

The Oppo A78 5G is priced at Rs. 18,999 for the sole 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. The phone comes in Glowing Blue and Glowing Black color options and will be available via Oppo India e-store and Amazon India website starting January 18, 2023. Launch offers include a flat 10-percent discount or up to Rs. 1,300 on purchasing the phone using the SBI credit card on Amazon. There are also no-cost EMI options available that start at Rs. 3,167.
