NPCI allocated level ‘14666’ to facilitate payment service to feature phone users

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) today allocated level ‘14666’ to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to facilitate payment services to feature phone users.

The Telecom Department’s Access Services Wing has allocated a series from 1466600000-1466699999 to NPCI. NPCI will further assign payment number series to Banks as per the requirement and use cases. The series has been allocated to NPCI with certain conditions.

NPCI has to coordinate with the telecom operators for further number use to banks. The number series will be given to only those entities where there is continuous usage for payments. NPCI will also monitor the usage of these numbers on a regular basis.

NPCI has been further instructed by the Telecom Department to ensure the security of transactions and related issues. The allotment of the number series came with the approval of the competent authority.
