Huawei Pocket S with Snapdragon 778G SoC, 6.9-inch foldable OLED display launched in China

Huawei has launched the Huawei Pocket S foldable smartphone in China. The phone features a 6.9-inch foldable OLED display, Snapdragon 778G SoC, 4000mAh battery with 40W fast charging, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication, and runs on HarmonyOS 3.0 out of the box.

Huawei Pocket S features a 6.9-inch full-HD+ (2790 x 1188 Pixels) OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1440 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, 300 Hz touch sampling rate, and P3 wide color gamut. It also has an outer 1.4-inch (340 × 340 pixels) OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate and 120 Hz touch sampling rate. The phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G (6 nm) chipset paired with Adreno 642L GPU, 8GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of onboard storage. It also supports Huawei’s propitiatory Nano Memory (NM) cards of up to 256GB for expandable storage.

Huawei Pocket S sports a dual rear camera setup of a 40-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 13-megapixel 120-degree ultrawide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture. For taking selfies and making video calls, the phone has a 10.7-megapixel front camera with an f/2.2 aperture lens. The phone packs a non-removable 4000mAh battery that supports 40W Huawei SuperCharge wired fast charging technology.

Connectivity options include dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, Bluetooth version 5.2 with support for SBC, AAC, and LDAC HD audio, NFC, dual-band GPS (L1 + L5), 4G LTE, and a USB Type-C port for charging and OTG. Sensors include an accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light, magnetometer, barometer, 10-channel multispectral sensor, hall sensor, and a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

Lastly, the phone measure 170 (folded 87.3) ×75.5 ×7.2 (folded 15.2) mm and weighs 190 grams.

Pricing and availability

Huawei Pocket S price starts at CNY 5,988 (around Rs. 68,000) for the 128GB storage variant, while the 256GB storage model costs CNY 6,488 (around Rs. 73,700). The top variant with 512GB of storage is priced at CNY 7,488 (around Rs. 85,600). The phone comes in Frost Silver, Mint Green, Primrose Gold, Cherry Pink, Ice Crystal Blue, and Obsidian Black color options.

It is available for pre-order in China and will go on sale starting November 10, 2022. However, the 512GB storage model will arrive in December 2022.
