The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has extended the last date of its 5G Hackathon due to the present COVID-19 situation. The deadline for 5G Hackathon was initially set to expire on 31 March.

DoT in its circular dated 30 March stated that the deadline for submission for 5G Hackathon applications is extended up to 30th April 2020. The move is in view of the present COVID-19 situation where most of the institutions and industries are closed.

DoT had earlier announced the 5G Hackathon in February 2020 in association with MeitY, Niti Aayog, Startup India, MSME, COAI, IITs/IIITs, and other stakeholders to identify and promote 5G products and solutions relevant to India. The initial deadline for submission of applications with 5G workable products and solutions was 31st March 2020.

The event has a prize pool of Rs 2.5 crore with the top 100 selected applicants being awarded Rs 1 lakh each. The top 3 winners will get Rs 10 lakh each. Certain participants will also get integration into live 5G field trials.
