WASHINGTON: A Californian start-up is developing a credit card-sized computer that will cost only $9 in its most basic form. The company Next Thing is developing the Chip computer that will have a 1Ghz processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage.

The computer also includes some networking technologies, such as wi-fi and Bluetooth.

The gadget can run a version of the Linux operating system and connects to monitors and displays via a basic composite connector.

The company is also planning to make a version of the Chip into a handheld gadget called the Pocket Chip that will sell for about $49. Next Thing is seeking funding on Kickstarter where almost 13,000 people have already pledged more than $645,000 to the project, 'BBC News' reported. Next Thing wants $50,000 to finish it.

The gadget, due to release in early 2016, could become yet another rival to the popular Raspberry Pi barebones computers which cost from $25 to $35. However, experts have warned that the Chip's low price tag only covered the basic board. According to http://m.timesofindia.com/tech/tech...-a-credit-card-for-9/articleshow/47257833.cms
