The number of total telephone connections in India rose to 1171.2 million at the end of October 2020 as compared to 1167.7 million telephone connections at the end of August 2020. India saw a rise of 3.5 million connections in the September-October 2020 period according to the data released by the Ministry of Communications today.
Out of the 1171.2 million total connections in the country as of 30th October 2020, around 1151.73 million connections were mobile connections. The tele-density rose from 86.23 percent at the end of August 2020 to 86.37 percent at the end of Octoebr 2020. The rural density stood at 58.85 percent.
The number of internet subscribers meanwhile 776.45 million at the end of September 2020 while the number of total broadband connections reached 726.32 million at the end of September 2020.
The increasing internet and broadband penetration in the world’s second-largest telephone connections market saw an acceleration in the growth of internet traffic with wireless data usage being 75.21 Exabytes during the January to September 2020 period. The cost of data substantially reduced to Rs 10.55 per GB enabling affordable internet access for millions of citizens.
