Samsung, the Korean manufacturer of smart devices, announced plans to produce its latest premium Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphones in India for Indian buyers to meet the demands of the local market.

The launch price for the Galaxy S23 series in India is between Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 1.55 lakh per device. Currently, the Galaxy S Series smartphones are manufactured at Samsung’s Vietnamese factory and imported for sale in India.

“All Galaxy S23 smartphones sold in India will be manufactured at the company’s Noida factory. Samsung already fulfils a majority of the domestic demand in India through local manufacturing at the Noida factory. Samsung’s decision to sell ‘Made in India’ Galaxy S23 smartphones shows the company’s commitment to India’s manufacturing and growth story,” Samsung said in a statement.

This news follows the announcement from the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman that duties on the import of camera lenses, a key selling point of the Galaxy S series, will be removed. Compared to the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Galaxy S23 series is priced 27-30% higher.

Last year’s Galaxy S22 smartphones were priced between Rs 72,999 -1,18,999 per piece and had reportedly received 1.4 lakh pre-bookings before the close of pre-bookings on March 10, 2022.

Samsung may adopt cost-cutting strategies for the base Galaxy S23 model planned to go on sale early next year. According to a tipster, one area that may see such a downgrade is the vibration motor, i.e., haptic feedback.
