Samsung has launched the latest entry in its Galaxy M Series in India – the Galaxy M42. This phone is the rebranded Galaxy A42 which launched in October 2020 in other countries but not India. The phone comes with quite a few distinctions of its own. It is the cheapest Samsung smartphone with 5G Capabilities in India, and it is also the first M Series phone to launch with 5G.
Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy M42 features a 6.6-inch HD+ AMOLED display with an Infinity-U cutout. While we don’t have any information on the phone’s display refresh rate, it will most likely be a 60Hz panel, given that smartphone manufacturers usually don’t provide a high refresh rate for resolutions less than Full HD. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor, the cheapest Snapdragon 7 series chipset with 5G capabilities. It packs a 5000 mAh battery with support for 15W Adaptive fast charging. Samsung claims that this will help with 22 hours of Internet browsing on a single charge, though we haven’t seen any actual results which say otherwise. The phone runs on Samsung’s One UI 3.1 on top of Android 11.
In terms of the optics, the Galaxy M42 features a quad rear camera setup. The primary camera is a 48MP lens paired with a Samsung ISOCELL sensor with an aperture of f/1.8. The secondary lens is an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide lens, while the other two are Macro lens and Depth sensor, each having a 5MP resolution having an f/2.4 aperture. The phone comes with certain quirky camera features like Single Take, Night Mode, Hyperlapse, Super-Slo mo, Scene Optimiser, and Flaw Detection. The front camera is a 20MP f/2.2 lens housed in the Infinity-U cutout.
Pricing
The Galaxy M42 will have the same storage at 128GB while having two different variants of RAM – 6GB and 8GB. The 6GB RAM and 128 GB storage variant will be available for Rs. 21,999 while the 8GB RAM + 128GB Storage variant will be available for Rs. 23,999. As an introductory offer, both variants will be available at a discount of Rs. 2000 in May. If the storage doesn’t feel much to you, you can expand it with a 1TB SD Card slot.
The phone will be available on Amazon, Samsung.com and select offline retail stores from May 1st. Both variants of the phone will be available in Prism Dot Black and Prism Dot Gray colors.
