Redmi K50 Gaming Edition with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, triple rear cameras launched

Redmi K50 Gaming Edition comes with 120W fast charging that is claimed to charge the phone from 0 to 100 percent in 17 minutes.

Xiaomi, on Wednesday, has launched the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition smartphone in China. The company has also partnered with the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team to bring a limited-edition Mercedes AMG F1 variant of the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition phone. The phone features a 6.67-inch OLED display, JBL four-unit speaker, Cyber Engine ultra-wideband X-axis motor, magnetic power pop-up shoulder key 2.0. Redmi K50 Gaming Edition runs Android 12 OS out of the box with MIUI 13 customization on top.

Redmi K50 Gaming Edition specifications

Redmi K50 Gaming Edition features a 6.67-inch full-HD+ (1080 x 2400 pixels) OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 480Hz touch sampling rate, and HDR10+ support. The display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Under the hood, the smartphone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4 nm) chipset paired with Adreno 730 graphics, up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

In terms of optics, the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition sports a triple rear camera setup of a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 primary sensor with a 6P lens and f/1.7 aperture, an 8-megapixel 120-degree ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture, and a 2-megapixel macro lens with f/2.4 aperture. For selfies and video calls, it has a 20-megapixel Sony IMX596 sensor. The phone comes with a non-removable 4700mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging, Power Delivery 3.0, and Quick Charge 3+ technology.

Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6e, Bluetooth version 5.2, GPS/ A-GPS, 4G VoLTE, 5G SA/ NSA/ Sub6, NFC, Infrared (IR), and a USB Type-C port. Sensors include accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope, ambient light, barometer, proximity, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The phone measures 162.5 x 76.7 x 8.5 mm and weighs 210 grams.

Pricing and availability

The Redmi K50 Gaming Edition is priced at CNY 3,299 (around Rs. 39,000) for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant, while the 12GB RAM and 128GB storage variant costs CNY 3,599 (around Rs. 42,600). The top variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at CNY 3,899 (around Rs. 46,000). The phone comes in Blue, Silver, and Black color options. The limited-edition Mercedes AMG F1 variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage cost CNY 4,199 (around Rs. 49,700).

The Redmi K50 Gaming Edition is currently available for pre-booking in China and will be available for purchase from February 18, 2022. The company is yet to announce the global availability of the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition, including in the Indian market.

According to the alleged Redmi K50 Pro renders shared by Xiaomiui.net, the smartphone will come with a centrally-aligned punch-hole cutout. It is seen sporting the volume rocker and power button on the right spine. On the back, the handset is seen sporting a rectangular camera module with a triple rear camera setup in a triangular arrangement. There is a silver-colored section that houses an LED flash, and has “AI Camera 64-megapixels” written on it suggesting 64-megapixel primary camera sensor. There is also an image of a transparent silicone case for the Redmi K50 Pro smartphone.
