State-run public sector undertaking (PSU) RailTel Corporation of India Limited has registered as one of the Public Data Office Aggregators (PDOA) under the PM-WANI Central Registry. As of date, DoT has issued over 50 PDOA registrations and 30 App Provider registrations.
Out of these, C-DOT tasked with handling the PM-WANI registry as of date has inculcated 36 PDOAs and 18 App Providers.
Department of Telecom (DoT) is looking to proliferate Broadband through Public Wi-Fi networks under the framework of the Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI) which was approved by the Union Cabinet on 9th December 2020.
RailTel is reported to be looking to leverage it’s existing infrastructure and railway network for setting up public Wi-Fi networks using the company’s infrastructure. RailTel is looking to extend its public Wi-Fi services in the areas adjacent to 5900 Railway stations.
The registration for PDOA and App Providers under PM-WANI was kicked off in January 2021 by DoT. The entities post successful registration on SARAL SANCHAR are to contact the Central Registry being handled by C-DOT for certification of their system and application software.
