In May 2020, Google announced that it is replacing the Play Music service with YouTube Music by the end of this year. As a part of the process, the company has now shutdown its Music store on Google Play globally, and the Browse Music section on the Play Store has also been removed.
The Google Play Music store website displays a message that states, “The Music store on Google Play is no longer available. To continue listening to your Play Music library, transfer your library to YouTube Music at music.youtube.com/transfer. You can also download your data via Google Takeout or delete your data through your Play Music account settings.”
The service allowed users to purchase music from Google Play and listen to them via the Play Music app. Users also have an option to download their purchased music in MP3 format for offline playback using any media player.
In the coming months, users will lose access to stream or download music using the Google Play Music app. Users still have an option to download their Play Music data via Google Takeout or transfer them to YouTube Music until December. Play Music data that is not transferred or downloaded will be deleted.
