DoT withdraws short codes from MTNL ahead of closure of special services of Landline in Delhi and Mumbai LSAs

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) today notified the withdrawal of short codes assigned to Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) ahead of the closure of special services of Landline in Delhi and Mumbai license service areas (LSAs).
MTNL on 28th October 2020 informed DoT about its decision to close certain special services being provided to its customers of Delhi and Mumbai LSA. OnlyTech had in November first reported closure of special service of MTNL Landline from 10th January 2021 in Delhi LSA.
MTNL is withdrawing 77, 1582/182, 1583/183, and 1951/1952 accessory services being provided to its subscribers. The short codes were dedicated to Hindi Sewa, STD code enquiry service, STD code enquiry service, and change number announcement service respectively.
DoT has withdrawn the short codes with immediate effect from MTNL ahead of the closure of special services next month. MTNL has urged its customers to dial 1130/1500 which is the toll-free consumer care number or write on [email protected] for any further queries.
