How bout those 5 lakh unique HBO viewers of Hotstar? Will they pay?

Sports comes with ads irrespective of OTT. If they are giving it for free. It is bringing more eyeballs and more space for advertisers. Advantage they have over linear TV. They can nake advertisers happy with targetted ads.

Free sports brings a lot of people to the platform. Just look at this IPL on average 1.5cr to 2cr live viewers very match. The number of unique viewers would be even more. Even if 5% of those people decide to subscribe for HBO/Paramount content that's massive W for them

I agree Sports brings lot of people to watch only Sports live events, then nobody subscribe their other premium contents under subscription plans. already cord cutters crying in corner after seeing lite version of Ads with Satellite linear channels.

Viacom18 Sports head mentions in some interview they are streaming Premium Properties IPL/Sports events for Free. Already these Cord cutters shifted to OTTs, now Jio Cinema educate lot of Viewers like We're lite version of Satellite linear channels with ads. If they continue these strategies nobody subscribe their plans just for HBO/Premium contents.

If they Bundle Premium IPL/Live Sports events with local Premium, HBO, Paramount contents then big win for them.

They are already shrinking Broadcasting channels in every region, now they need calculator after Acquiring HBO/WB library for 1000 Cr for just 3 years. Don't compare Other Subscription OTTs with Zero Subscription OTT Streaming platform. be Hotstar, Netflix, Amazon, Sony Liv or Zee5 their premium/sports contents under Subscription plan only.

Price is way too high. Even their HBO channel had no viewers for 1 or 2rs per month.

Because that HBO channnel offered movies only. They had their own channels costing ₹110 before they license the content to Star India in 2015.

Can't compare pre-NTO prices since they were kept high on purpose to make people buy cheap bouquets.

Don't generalize cord cutters like this, some might be unhappy but most are not and they are not coming back for this petty things.
When someone cuts cord they take that decision after looking at all the things.

Satellite Linear English movie channels alive because Subscription revenue, Ads rarely airing on these channels. Most of movies and contents are 1 Break or Break free only.
