As long as the movies do not come automatically with the OTT subscription it will not be successful atleast at these prices. I wonder how much BMS has earned from their streaming service. It will be a useful gauge of how much Prime Video can make by renting the movies.
Amazon doesn't have to pay anything to producers to offer their movies for rent. Amazon only has to share the earnings. Probably 35% Amazon will take and rest will be given to producers. So there is no loss in this business.

As you already know, to offer movies to members, Amazon will have to pay a huge amount for the streaming rights.

But this is not 1999 or 2004.
As long as streaming services offers rentals, Hollywood producers will put their movies on rent first before putting it for subscriber access (on whichever streaming service offers them the highest price for the rights). It is completely the decision of the producers.

We have to see how Indian producers will go ahead from here. Will they follow Hollywood or no? Yash Raj Films has been giving their films for Prime Video subscribers before giving them to rent on Apple and Google. But with Prime Video also launching rentals, we will have to see if they will change their strategy.

My point was how many customers BMS was attracting through streaming service would have been an indicator of how many potential customers Amazon is likely to have

This was available in US and few other countries from a very long time. I think even before prime video’s launch in India those markets had this option.

This benefits both users and Amazon. People won’t don’t want to sub another OTT just for 1-2 movies can rent the movie and watch.

Need to see if Amazon will be doing some kind of offers on selected movies like BMS/Apple.

When it comes to pricing Amazon/Apple/BMS have similar prices. Maybe once movie is available to subscribed users Amazon might offer it for a low price compared to Apple/BMS.

BMS Stream looks like a failure to me. I think it is one year since launched but their app doesn't have a single review in Google app store. On Amazon app store, it is full of complaints about video quality and all that.

Both BMS and Prime Video has two pluses: High popularity.

So both are perfect platforms to offer video rentals. But Prime Video will succeed due to its app quality and video quality.

I think it is only for regional language movies
