I hate this that included in their streaming app. They could have launched a whole seperate app to not confuse users.
This practice was followed by video rental stores back in the day of VHS and DVD. Customers could rent movies a-la-carte or take membership. But with membership, all titles would not be available. To make titles available for members, they need license from distributor/producer of the movie.

Same practice is being followed here.

As for the confusion, they have put "prime" badge on titles available for members. No "prime" badge on rent-only titles.

Theoretically what you are saying is right but I am not sure that this is going to work out especially in India.People here are not going to pay Rs 499 just to watch Batman especially that it comes with caveat that once started the movie should be finished in 48 hrs.If Amazon does tries to prefer renting movies instead of making it available as part of prime then its subscription numbers are going to fall. This is going to only increase the number of people watching movies illegally.
Pricing is determined by windows. Normal video rental rate is Rs.150 per movie. But this price can only be applied to movies which are older than 90 days. 90 days is the typical theatrical exclusive window. Batman is currently in this window. So price is high. That's why they have labeled it as "Early Access". Once it is out of this window, price will be Rs.150 or below.

But Batman/Spiderman no way home will be on which OTT platform?
What will happen if they keep all latest relase in Rent before appear to regular viewers ?

Batman will be available to prime members after the rental-exclusive window is over.

Spiderman will be available on Netflix after rental-exclusive window is over.

Not all titles available for rent right now on Prime will be available to members later. For example, Spiderman is available for rent now. But it will not be available for members later.

As long as the movies do not come automatically with the OTT subscription it will not be successful atleast at these prices. I wonder how much BMS has earned from their streaming service. It will be a useful gauge of how much Prime Video can make by renting the movies.

But this is not 1999 or 2004.
