Amazon India launched an ad-supported video streaming service miniTV that will be available within the Amazon shopping app itself. The app will roll out iOS mobile apps and mobile web browsers in the coming months. To watch the content offered on miniTV, scroll down on the homepage of the Amazon shopping application, and tap on the miniTV screen which will be redirected to a new section with a similar UI as Prime Video.
Opposed to Prime Video, the miniTV service is completely free and doesn’t require any separate app. The service has curated content from third-party content providers just like Flipkart Video and the content will be in genres of scripted web series from TVF and Pocket Aces, comedy videos from leading web comedians like Ashish Chanchlani, Amit Bhadana, Round2Hell, and Prajakta Koli among others.
Apart from the web series and comedy videos, miniTV is also housing videos regarding the latest gadgets and tech trends presented by tech expert Traking Tech, fashion, and beauty videos by Sejal Kumar and ShivShakti among others, and food content created by Kabita’s Kitchen. Amazon also promised exclusive and new content for miniTV in the coming months.
Amazon’s approach is different in India compared to the USA to enter the ad-supported streaming competition where they had launched IMDb TV. With miniTV, Amazon is set to compete with Disney+ Hotstar, YouTube, Voot, Flipkart Video, MX Player, and other AVOD services in India. Only time will tell how successful will this move will be for Amazon.
