Amazon has launched the Echo Dot (5th Gen) smart speaker in India. The new Echo Dot (5th Gen) has a spherical design with a ring indicator light at the bottom, similar to the previous gen model. Further, it comes with new features and enhancements over the last gen models, such as a built-in temperature sensor, motion detection, and improved audio quality.

The Amazon Echo Dot (5th Gen) includes a 1.73-inch (44 mm) front-firing speaker with support for lossless audio. The smart speaker has a built-in temperature sensor that detects the room temperature and can turn on or off Smart ACs automatically. Users can also ask Alexa to know the room temperature. It also has a new motion detection feature that uses ultrasound to sense any movement in a room. Users can use this feature to automate tasks, like turning on and off Smart lights.
The Echo Dot (5th Gen) includes dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh with A2DP support for audio streaming from a mobile device to Echo Dot or from Echo Dot to Bluetooth speaker, and Matter Controller for controlling Smart home devices (Alexa Android app setup only, iOS support will be available later). Unlike the previous gen models, the Echo Dot (5th Gen) does not include a 3.5 mm line out port.
Amazon Echo Dot (5th Gen) supports tap controls for controlling music, dismissing timers, ending calls, or snoozing alarms. It also has a physical microphone mute button that turns off the built-in mic of the Echo Dot device for privacy. Lastly, the device measures 100 x 100 x 89 mm and weighs 304 grams.
Pricing and availability
The Echo Dot (5th Gen) costs Rs. 5,499 and comes in Black, Blue, and White color options. However, as a part of the launch offer, the Smart speaker is available to purchase from the Amazon India website for Rs. 4,999.
