Amazon Alexa has completed five years in India, and to celebrate, the company has announced a new male voice option for Alexa’s responses. Amazon India will also offer deals on various Alexa devices, including Echo smart speakers and Fire TV devices, from March 2, 2023, to March 4, 2023.

“It is humbling to see many Indian users enjoy interacting with Alexa as part of their daily routine. Over the past five years, our aim has been to build Alexa from India and for India, and I truly believe that our journey is synonymous to the evolution of ambient computing in the country,” said Dilip R.S., Country Manager for Alexa, Amazon India.

“As we look ahead, our focus remains on bringing to life newer voice, touch, motion, and vison-enabled experiences for consuming entertainment, completing tasks, and accessing information,” he added.

Amazon Alexa users in India can easily change Alexa’s default voice to the new male voice by saying “Alexa, change your voice” on the Echo device or via the Alexa app by going to the particular device setting and choosing Alexa’s voice. Further, the new male voice can respond in both English and Hindi languages.

According to the company, requests to Alexa for music increased by 53 percent in 2022, with users streaming songs through music streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime Music, Spotify, JioSaavn, and Apple Music. Additionally, hands-free bill payments with Alexa on Echo devices increased by 102 percent and requests for controlling Smart devices increased by 515 percent.

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Alexa, Amazon India will offer deals on Alexa devices from March 2, 2023, at 12:00 AM to March 4, 2023. Customers can also shop for Alexa built-in devices from other manufacturers, including Boat, Noise, Philips, Syska, and more.
