Alphabet-owned video streaming platform YouTube has added a slew of new features to its mobile application and web player. Most Replayed, Video Chapters and Seek to Exact Moment are some of the launched features.

The Most Replayed feature was previously available as an experiment for YouTube Premium users. It allows viewers to find out the most popular parts of any video. A grey graph will appear on the top of the video progress bar indicating the popularity of any section of video.

“If the graph is high, then that part of the video has been replayed often. You can use the graph to quickly find and watch those moments,” said YouTube in a blog post announcing this feature. The video thumbnail will also indicate the star icon when you’ve hit the Most Replayed segment.

YouTube Video Chapters was launched back in May 2020, now its support is being added to Smart TVs and Gaming Consoles. Chapters allow viewers to jump to any particular section of a video. It can be added by creators and also generated automatically.

Lastly, Seek to Exact Moment is a new feature that you will start testing exclusively with its Premium subscribers. Without detailing it, YouTube only said that it will allow users to easily skip to the exact moment in a video that they are most interested in watching.

YouTube tests experimental features with its Premium members, giving them early access to new and upcoming features on the platform. YouTube Premium subscribers can visit https://www.youtube.com/new and sign up for the features they would like to try.

Official YouTube Blog: Bringing new Redirect Method features to YouTube

Over the past years, Jigsaw partnered with Moonshot CVE to conduct extensive research to understand how extremist groups leverage technology to spread their message and recruit new members. From there, they created the Redirect Method, which uses curated video content to redirect people away from violent extremist propaganda and steer them toward video content that confronts extremist messages and debunks its mythology. Today, YouTube is rolling out a feature using the model proven by the Redirect Method: when people search for certain keywords on YouTube, we will display a playlist of videos debunking violent extremist recruiting narratives.
