Xiaomi launches Mi Band 5 Fitness Tracker

Xiaomi has unveiled Mi Band 5 in China, the next-generation fitness band from the company. Compared to its predecessor Mi Band 4, this band brings a host of improvements, bigger display, new wireless charging and more.

Mi Band 5 comes with a bigger 1.1-inch coloured AMOLED display having more than 100 new animated watch faces. It has 11 sport modes like yoga, rowing, elliptical, running, jump roping, cycling, etc. 

To help users keep track and understand their activities, the band offers Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI) Activity Index. It features an improved sleep monitoring system.  There is also an improved sleeping tracking system with support for REM sleep as well as evaluating deep and light sleep sessions.

Xiaomi has also improved the heart rate sensor, this band is claimed to be 50% more precise. For female users, the band has a women’s health mode to track their menstrual cycle with the. Social media notifications, music control, incoming calls, text, weather updates and more are available on the smart band. 

Mi Band 5 also bears a new remote-camera feature that allows users to click a photo from their smartphone using the band. The wearable is equipped with a built-in microphone, barometer, NFC support and water resistance up to 50 meters.

The latest band has a new charging system that can charge the device without taking off the straps. The non-NFC variant has almost 20 days of battery backup while the NFC variant is said to last for 14 days in a single charge.

The Mi Band 5 will go on sale in China next week starting June 18. The band will be available in Black, Blue, Pink, Orange, Purple, Yellow, and Green strap options. Xiaomi has priced the standard or the non-NFC version of Mi Band 5 at CNY 189 (about Rs. 2,000), while its NFC variant will cost CNY 229 (about Rs. 2,500).
