Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp is testing a new feature that can automatically delete group messages after a certain period. This feature is called “Delete messages” and has been spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.19.257.
According to WABetaInfo, This feature was previously called disappearing messages, but now it has been renamed to Delete Messages on both Android and iOS. Generally, WhatsApp groups receive a lot of messages, and they can fill the phone storage faster. This feature will help users to get rid of junk messages automatically, and it will also save some phone storage.
Delete messages feature can delete messages automatically after a fixed interval of time. Users will have the option to select the duration of how long the new messages will last. It could be one hour, one day, one week, one month or one year.
Currently, this feature is available for group chats, and it can only be enabled by group administrators. Earlier, it was expected to be available for both group chats and individual chats. Reportedly, WhatsApp is also testing a Dark mode feature.
