Vi (Vodafone Idea) yesterday announced that it is planning to add around 2000 TDD sites to boost network capacity across key cities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana telecom circle by December 2021. The addition of TDD sites is part of Vi’s planned network expansion exercise in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana circle to enhance its GIGAnet 4G.
The telco will also increase capacity in the existing 900+ TDD sites across key cities in the two states apart from the addition of 2000 TDD sites by the end of December 2021. The deployment of TDD sites is in addition to the recent spectrum refarming of 3G spectrum to 4G in the circle and supplementing of existing Vi 4G with the expansion of the 2100 MHz spectrum band. This will help in the significant scaling up of Vi GIGAnet 4G network strength and capacity.
Vi in June 2021 refarmed 3G spectrum to 4G in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana circle along with the deployment of additional 5 MHz of 2100 MHz band in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana circle. Vi’s spectrum portfolio in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana circle consists of 5 MHz in the 900 MHz band, 6.6 MHz in the 1800 MHz band, 5 MHz in the 2100 MHz band, and 10 MHz in the 2500 MHz band.
Vi customers across key cities in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana including Hyderabad, Vijaywada, Tirupati, Warangal, Guntur, and Vishakapatnam will be able to experience better indoor voice as well as download and upload speeds.
“In line with our commitment to continue enhancing customer experience, we are deploying additional capex and latest technologies for the most efficient spectrum utilisation to enhance network capacities for our current and future requirements. With this we will have a good mix of FDD and TDD sites enabling better coverage and capacity. I am confident that our initiatives will help us to meet the voice and data demands of our customers.”
