Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ltd. (MSRDC) has taken a significant step towards bolstering public safety on the bustling Mumbai-Pune Expressway through an exclusive agreement with telecom operator Vi. The agreement entails the deployment of emergency calling booths along the 95-kilometer stretch of the expressway.

The initiative aims to ensure seamless communication, connectivity, and prompt response in case of emergencies for commuters on one of the busiest highways in the state. Under the agreement, Vi will provide network support to every emergency calling booth placed every two kilometers along the expressway.

These emergency calling booths serve as vital lifelines for commuters, offering direct access to the state highway police control room. In moments of distress, such as medical emergencies, accidents, or vehicle breakdowns, these booths enable swift and efficient communication with the authorities.

Rohit Tandon, Cluster Business Head – Maharashtra & Goa, Vodafone Idea, expressed his views on the partnership, emphasizing the importance of ubiquitous connectivity in ensuring public safety. He highlighted the critical role emergency calling booths play in providing a fast and direct connection with highway patrol, especially when time is of the essence.

Shri Rajesh Patil, Joint Managing Director, MSRDC Ltd., underscored the corporation’s commitment to commuter safety and security. He emphasized the significance of the emergency calling booths as part of MSRDC’s ongoing efforts to offer a secure travel experience on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Patil praised Vi for its expertise in maintaining a stable and superior network experience along the route, expressing confidence in a successful collaboration.

As part of the agreement, Vi will ensure network saliency round the clock at each emergency calling booth, guaranteeing anytime communication for commuters. To maintain uniformity and prevent network disruptions, the booths and police control rooms will be equipped with Vi SIM cards. MSRDC will oversee the management of equipment and address any queries or concerns from commuters. With this partnership, MSRDC and Vi are enhancing connectivity and reinforcing safety measures on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
