Telecom service provider Vodafone Idea (Vi) has introduced a new feature to allow its prepaid customers to switch to postpaid without documentation or SIM change. This feature aims to simplify the conversion process of Vi customers from prepaid to postpaid or vice-versa and offers more convenience and flexibility to the customers. Conversion from prepaid to postpaid via OTP is not applicable to customers in the J&K licensed service area.
To convert an existing Vi prepaid mobile connection to postpaid or vice-versa without changing the SIM, customers first need to submit a request by visiting a company-owned Vi Store. Then, they will receive an SMS on their existing Vi number with a unique transaction ID and One-time password (OTP). The successful validation of the OTP will consider as the customer’s consent to convert their prepaid number to postpaid or vice versa.
Vi says all requests received before 6 PM will process after 10 PM on the same day, and requests received after 6 PM will process after 10 PM the next day. Furthermore, during the conversion process, the service on the customer’s mobile number will be disrupted for up to 30 minutes. Customers will receive a confirmation SMS for the successful confirmation of the Vi number. Any unused balance in the talktime or unlimited prepaid pack of up to Rs. 1000 will be added as credit to the customer’s postpaid bill.
The telco may reject the conversion request if the KYC details of the requesting customer, as available with VIL, are not adequate. In such cases, the customer will have to complete e-KYC or D-KYC process with SIM change for the conversion. In addition, any open service requests, including SIM change, UPC, Postpaid to Prepaid, or Prepaid to Postpaid requests, needs to be closed or canceled before submitting the request for conversion via the OTP process.
Vi customers can choose from a range of postpaid plans starting at Rs. 401 per month, which offer unlimited calls, data rollover, OTT subscriptions, and more. After switching from prepaid to postpaid, Vi customers will not be allowed to convert back to prepaid within 90 days.
