Truecaller has launched its AI-powered Assistant in India to combat spam calls. Truecaller Assistant is a call screening service that can automatically answer incoming calls and ask the caller about the purpose of the phone call. It also helps users to decide whether to answer calls or avoid spam and fraud calls from unknown numbers. Truecaller Assistant leverages machine learning (ML), advanced speech-to-text, and natural language processing technologies to identify calls.
“Until now, Truecaller would show you who’s calling, but now you can let Truecaller Assistant have a conversation with the caller on your behalf. This is a very exciting next step for us in helping people avoid spam and fraud callers completely. We’ve rolled this out to a few markets earlier, and we are really happy to offer this to Truecaller fans in India,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, MD India, Truecaller.
When a user decline or does not answer the phone call, it gets routed to the AI-powered Truecaller Assistant. The Assistant answers the call and uses advanced speech-to-text technology to identify the caller’s identity and the reason for the call. When the caller responds to the Assistant, users can view who is calling along with the real-time transcription on the screen, allowing users to decide whether to answer the call.
The Assistant supports five different voices, including male and female options. Additionally, it is equipped with advanced speech-to-text technology and allows users to record the screening of the calls. Truecaller Assistant can also comprehend multiple languages, including English, Hindi, and other regional languages. Furthermore, users can customize the greetings that the Assistant conveys to unknown callers.
Truecaller Assistant is available for Android users only and supports English, Hindi and Hinglish in India. The company is offering a 14-day trial of the feature, and then, it will be available as a part of the Truecaller Premium subscription, which costs Rs. 149 per month.
