British sports-only OTT platform DAZN has taken the service globally by launching the service in over 200 countries and territories on December 1. The streamer is run by former ESPN CEO John Skipper has rights to stream Football, Cricket, Basketball, Combat Sports, etc. in some of the existing territories like Canada, the USA, the UK, etc.
In India, the streamer is set to bring the combat sports like championship boxing, original shows, and documentaries at launch and may expand its portfolio and is priced at Rs 69 monthly. Some of the heavyweight matches include Anthony Joshua v Kubrat Pulev on December 12, Canelo Alvarez v Callum Smith on Dec 19.
The streamer is available on multiple devices like Android and iOS mobile apps, Samsung Tizen TVs, LG webOS TVs, Android TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and supports Chromecast for big-screen viewing.
The streamer will compete with Disney+ Hotstar, India’s largest OTT which holds rights to all major sports like India’s frenzy Cricket, Football, Tennis, Formula 1, etc., Sony LIV which also holds rights for major sporting events like Olympics, Football, Cricket, WWE, etc., and Fancode which operates on PVOD model having Bundesliga, CPL, etc. and Amazon Prime Video which is entering sport streaming business in India with New Zealand’s home cricket matches.
