South Korean smartphone maker Samsung in partnership with SKTelecom has launched its new upper mid-range smartphone Galaxy Quantum 2 in its home market. This handset is expected to be brought in international markets as Galaxy A82 5G and succeed Galaxy A80.

Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2 features a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ Infinity-O AMOLED display with 1,440 x 3,200 pixels resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It runs on One UI 3.1 based on Android 11 and has an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Under the hood, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC coupled with at least 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which is further expandable up to 1TB via a micro SD card.

For photography, there is a triple rear camera setup with a 64-megapixel main camera coupled with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. On the front, you get a 10-megapixel camera for selfie and video calling.

The smartphone is fueled by a 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging support, however, there is only a 15W charger bundled inside the box. It is also equipped with two stereo speakers and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

“With the Galaxy Quantum 2, we have successfully expanded the application of quantum security technologies to a wider variety of services including financial and security services. Our efforts will continue to keep expanding services that are safely and securely provided via the Galaxy Quantum 2,” said Han Myung-jin, Vice President and Head of Marketing Group of SKT

The 2.5×2.5mm Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) chip developed by ID Quantique is integrated with phone for additional security which generates random numbers by creating noise via an LED and capturing it through a CMOS sensor. This makes the device very difficult to hack. Connectivity options on this handset include dual-SIM support, 5G SA / NSA, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6 (2.4/5GHz), Bluetooth 5, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.

Pricing and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2 is priced at KRW 699,600 (about Rs. 47,000) for the sole 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. It will be available in 3 colour options- White, Gray, and Light. The smartphone is up for pre-orders and will be available from April 23rd onwards. Buyers pre-ordering the phone will get Galaxy Buds Live and a transparent silicone case for free.
