HFCL Limited’s Managing Director Mahendra Nahata earlier this week said that the company’s emphasis was on developing and designing new generation telecom and defense products by its own R&D. The increased demand for optical fiber cables and Telecom Equipment not only in India but from overseas market as well due to shift to digital economy accerelating globally has significantly boosted the company’s prospect.
The upcoming 5G opportunity, BharatNet, and transformational projects like PM-WANI along with governmental policies like PLI for telecom sector and boost to Make in India program will offer strong tailwinds for the domestic telecom equipment manufacturing.

HFCL is gearing up to offer various products, solutions, and services for the 5G technology which is the next big upgrade for the telecommunication industry. HFCL expects CAPEX for 5G deployments on pan India basis entailing massive investments of INR 3650 Bn in next 5-6 years.
“Open Radio Access Network (OpenRAN) architecture enable network operators to design and implement 4G and 5G networks by different equipment from different vendors leading to huge opportunities for the manufacturers,” said HFCL Limited in an Investor Presentation.
HFCL has established a 5G business unit recently to develop rich portfolio of next generation 5G compatible products and services. The company is working on Small and Macro cell for 5G. The low-powered cellular radio access nodes will provide for data capacity demands of a 5G network. HFCL is also working on aggregation routers with high IP throughput and advanced IP services to meet the transport requirements of a 5G mobile network.
