The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on Monday amended PMRTS, CMRTS, ISP, ILD, NLD, and Voicemail/Audiotex/UMS licenses to include the Trusted Products clause. The amendment comes days after DoT amended UASL, UL and UL (VNO) licenses to include the Trusted Products clause. DoT has now amended a wide range of licensing agreements to impose conditions on procurement of telecommunication equipment on grounds of Defense of India.
The amendments are uniform for all licensing regimes. All licensees under different license agreements from 15th June 2021 can only connect Trusted Products in its network and also seek permission from Designated Authority for upgradation of an existing network utilizing the Telecommunication Equipment not designated as Trusted Products. The amendment however will not affect ongoing Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) or updates to existing equipment already inducted in the network as of the date of effect.
National Cyber Security Coordinator will notify categories of equipment for which the security requirement related to Trusted Sources are applicable. NCSC may also notify a list of Designated Sources from whom no procurement can be done. The procedure for the inclusion of telecommunication equipment in the list of Trusted Sources will be issued by the Designated Authority.
