Sony being an Japanese company never should have neglected Animax and concentrated on making Animax a popular channel like SPENA did in Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Phillipines, Thailand, Indonesia, Macau, Myanmar, Maldives.
I can't believe they shut down Animax. It was my most fav channel as a kid.
Sony must try to bring Japanese anime to India. It won't be popular, so it should spend less and price it as such for niche viewers.

Disney will never allow itself to be made fun of in any critical or negative manner.

This is expected from the highly money hungry brand on its way to global domination.

And now this:

Hotstar has left out the latest episode of HBO's Emmy-winning half-hour news satire talk show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, which dealt with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity and several controversies. New episodes of Last Week Tonight, which air Sunday nights in the US on HBO, go up Tuesdays 6am on Hotstar. The Modi-centric episode was still not available at the time of writing. (It's on YouTube, as always.) Hotstar didn't comment despite repeated requests.

Netflix also took down content based on specific Govt. recommendations. It's not like they are any different FROM Hotstar.
Can you highlight which content?

Also I don't have problem with any content taken off. But put it first out. If there is some sort of violation found against government. Then remove it with a proper announcement. For now they are betraying paying customer who expected a new episode of Last Week Tonight Tuesday morning.

Realistically also speaking the audience Hotstar Premium caters to wouldn't have any impact on the content.

They took down on government's request. And India is not one of those country. We are a democracy. We have freedom of speech. Who requested Hotstar not to upload? If profanity was the case how did other shows with taboo content like Game of Thrones made the cut?

If Hotstar decides to stay away from politics. Then they should stick to just one ideology. Look how shamelessly they used hashtag used to welcome US President to India to promote a show making mockery of him.
