Opera Software has launched a new VPN app to help iOS users “bypass firewalls, access geo-restricted content and extend the access of apps”. The app will be available for iPhone and iPad users.

Chris Houston, president of Opera’s SurfEasy division, said every day, millions of people, from students to working people, find that social media sites like Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook as well as video streaming sites are blocked when they surf on their campus or workplace Wi-Fi. “With the new Opera VPN app, we let people bust through firewalls, break down the barriers of the web and enjoy the internet with freedom,” he said in a release.

Opera VPN for iOS is the first free VPN app from Opera and the team is also working on a similar offering for Opera’s desktop browser.
The app will let users choose five virtual locations — USA, Canada, Germany, Singapore and The Netherlands — to access content.

The app will come pre-loaded with an adblocker that will remove ads across all apps and web browsers to speed them up and save your mobile data. Opera VPN also prevents online trackers from storing information from your device and usage, so ads can’t follow you around online, the release added.
