Reliance Jio is one of the hottest telecom operators in the Indian telecom space. The company is offering free SIM cards to the customers along with some freebies such as free 4G data, unlimited voice and video calling and more. Though, to make HD voice calls through Jio network, your smartphone needs to be compatible with VoLTE. While several new phones are launching with VoLTE support, for older models, companies are pushing out software updates to enable VoLTE. After OnePlus and Google (for its Pixel and Nexus series) , Lenovo has now rolled out an OTA update for its 2016 K-series of smartphones to bring VoLTE support.

Until now, K-series users were required to use Jio4GVoice app to make outgoing calls, but this will no longer be required after the current update. The list of devices getting the update software update include Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus (3GB) , Lenovo Vibe K5 Note, Vibe K5, and the recently launched K6 Power. The update will also be made available for the K4 Note in the coming weeks.

We've got Killer news! VoLTE with @reliancejio support is rolling out to all K-series phones of 2016. Experience Knockout Internet speeds.

With the latest update, Lenovo K-series smartphone users can now make most of their Jio connection. Also, the move will put pressure on other manufacturers to push out an update to add VoLTE support for their compatible smartphones. For Reliance, more smartphone companies, especially ones with budget devices, coming onboard will help it achieve its target of 100 million subscribers by March 2017. Already, Reliance Jio has added nearly 60 million customers in record time.

Reliance Jio’s latest ‘Happy New Year’ offer is valid till March 31 2017 and it offers benefits such as free unlimited local and national voice and video calls, unlimited SMS and unlimited internet access. However, as per the fair usage policy (FUP), the high speed data usage is capped at 1GB per day, after which the speed will be cut down to 128Kbps, and will reset every midnight. The company is also offering users with an access to suite of apps to stream music, movies, Live TV, read magazines, cloud storage and more. The existing users who are enjoying the benefits of ‘Welcome Offer’ will continue receiving it till December 31 2016, after which they will be migrated to the ‘Happy New Year’ offer starting January 1 2017.

Ever since the company commercially launched its services, incumbent telecom operators have been facing the heat due to a cutthroat competition. Though, it has only benefited end users as Vodafone , Idea , Airtel and Aircel , all have slashed their data prices, making 4G affordable than ever before. Recently, the operators also announced new packs priced around Rs 150 and Rs 350 that offer free local and national voice calling along with some bundled data.

While Reliance Jio has been scaling high with its increasing subscriber base, the only obstacles in its path are the lack of sufficient interconnect points due to which more than 900 crore calls have been failed to other networks. Also, the data speeds have have drastically come down from 20Mbps to 2Mbps and lower at most places. But this bound to happen with the increase in subscriber base, and the only way to tackle it will be to add towers to cater to users. Ambani also mentioned that Reliance Jio has emerged as the largest broadband provider in the country, and an average Jio customer consumes up to 25 times more data compared to average broadband user.
