Broadcast rights war directly between Star and Sony while digital rights war between these players:
  • BeIN Sports
  • Super Sports
  • Follow On
  • Yupp
  • Times
  • OSN
  • Facebook
  • Airtel
  • BamTech
  • Econet
  • Perform Group
  • Reliance Jio
Bein & SuperSport might be bidding for overseas rights. It's interesting that no one from the UK bid for the rights. I guess Premier League has taken a big toll on Sky & BT.

PL was sold for $5 Billion so not a small amount so it may be a reason

Amazon has invested in DD so nothing left to invest on bid whereas Star invest in bid so nothing left to invest on DD :grin

But if Star and Hot Star Wins then there will not be delay feed for Digital rights, we can watch Live Online as well.

No BCCi don't sell broadcast right according to matches, they all sell matches as a whole
I guess it's a good option to reduce the revenue burden. Maybe in the next broadcast rights cycle when IPL has grown bigger and there are dedicated followers of every team. The insane way the cost of rights are growing, there has to be a limit where an alternate system has to come in place. Premier League rights sky rocketed this season, so BT and Sky distributed premium matches to reduce the burden.

Is it possible that both Star & Sony get to broadcast IPL (partly) just like Sky & BT do for Premier League?
This may be possible if, either of the two want to broadcast completely outside India and the other only in India.

The case is different with PL, with three broadcasters. Sky and BT sharing the live match package with exclusive matches to both channels, while BBC has right to show the highlights of the games. This is because of the number of teams, matches, timeslots and other factors. This system 'may' come to IPL in distant future with expansions.
