I think they fear that Star and Sony will bid insanely so no point in submitting bid and accept defeat
atleast they should have tried. thinking Sony and Star will bid insanely and withdrawing from bid is not good. They are also an international company.

10 Year IPL rights have made sony's sports segment so strong. It provided the base for SPSN. Remember the first IPL, they dont even had a sports channel to broadcast the matches. Sony Max broadcast ed the matches live.
They don't even know the tournament would be a success or not, they took the risk and here they are..

Nd look what DSports have done..!!

India is a complicated market, Foreign experience will not help you much, in developed countries there are only 3-4 MSo who covers whole country but in India there are more than thousands so distribution of channels is also a big issue, I think they don't have any idea at what rate they should negotiate with MSO and as a result they could not estimate their revenue from IPL so cannot bid

they are not here for the first time.
Discovery has been in India for many years..
they know the market of India very well.
Without knowing the market, one wouldn't have started the channel bro..

Then what could be the reason for not submitting bid other than what i said ?

I had messaged them in FB asking, what's the reason for not submitting the bid..
Let's wait for their reply.

Before this everyone was relating Dsports with Eurosports and its mighty financial power, now it seems all are gimik only, it seems their situation is like Nimbus and only interest in those right where Big boys Star or Sony don't bid like Pakistan cricket :haha

While Sony and Star are battling for this so fiercely, there is literally no chance for a third player to win the rights.

Sony started broadcasting IPL on MAX, built SIX later, then built KIX and now has evolved itself into a full-time Sports Network and acquired TEN with a vision. Their current and future plans (excluding the logo though) might be better than what they had during their first go at the billion-dollar-league.

Star has been trying to take control of IPL from many years, in fact by running parallel programs on IPL match days to increase their ratings. They have also tried tying up officially with few IPL teams, winning digital media rights and broadcasting on hotstar and much more. They in fact had the rights for Champions League which was scrapped.

Discovery has understood the severity and are staying out of it. But what I do not understand at this point is, how is DSport going to survive in India with a limited fanbase for the content it airs? I was of the opinion that DSport's creation in India by Discovery was to conquer IPL; thereby increasing their EuroSport portfolio to include IPL. But they are apparently scared.
