Petr Cech thinks Chelsea will dip into the transfer market when the time is right, rather than just for the sake of it.

The Blues have been surprisingly quiet this summer, with plenty of speculation doing the rounds but little actual activity being carried out.

A change in manager is partially responsible for their lack of action, with Carlo Ancelotti having been replaced by Andre Villas-Boas.

He will have his own targets in mind and must discuss a strategy with owner Roman Abramovich before splashing the cash.
As far as first-choice goalkeeper Cech is concerned, that is a sensible approach, with it important not to waste money bringing in players who offer nothing to the current squad.

"I think there is no hurry to get new players," he said.

"Chelsea at the moment, with this squad, is quiet in the transfer market but that doesn't have to be the case in a week or 10 days."

While the Blues have yet to show their hand during the summer window, reigning Barclays Premier League champions Manchester United have already spent some £50m.

Among those to have been drafted in by the Red Devils is Spanish shot-stopper David de Gea, a man Cech rates but one he feels will have to cope with considerable pressure next season.

He said: "It's a huge advantage for Manchester United to have a goalkeeper who is 20 years old because he can stay for many years.

"But it is a huge gamble at the same time because he is joining a historically very successful club that has had great goalkeepers like Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar.

"We remember how many years it took to replace Peter Schmeichel, so let's see what's going to happen now that Edwin van der Sar has retired. It's a huge task to fill the boots of Van der Sar."
