Apple iPad Air (2022) with M1 chip, 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display, 28.6 watt-hour battery launched

Apple, on Tuesday, has launched the iPad Air (2022) at an online Apple event. The iPad Air (2022) features a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display, octa-core Apple M1 chip, 12-megapixel rear camera, 28.6 watt-hour battery, and runs the iPad OS 15 out of the box. Apple has also launched the Apple Pencil (2nd generation), Magic Keyboard, Smart Keyboard Folio, and Smart Folio for the new iPad Air.

iPad Air (2022) specifications

Apple iPad Air (2022) features a 10.9-inch (2360 x 1640 pixels) Liquid Retina display with 264 PPI pixel density, P3 wide color gamut, True Tone, and up to 500 nits of peak brightness. It also comes with an anti-reflective screen coating. The device is powered by an octa-core Apple M1 chip (four perform­ance cores and four efficiency cores) paired with an Apple 8-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, and 8GB of RAM. It comes in 64GB and 256GB storage variants.

The iPad Air (2022) includes a single rear camera setup of a 12-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens. Camera features include 4K video recording at 60fps, 1080p slo-mo recording at 240fps, Smart HDR 3, panorama, and burst mode. For taking selfies and making video calls, it is equipped with a 12-megapixel 122-degree ultra-wide-angle sensor on the front with an f/2.4 aperture lens. The device packs a 28.6 watt-hour lithium-polymer battery that can deliver up to 10-hours of web browsing on the Wi-Fi network or up to 9-hours of battery life on the 5G network on a single charge. It supports 20W fast charging technology.

Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6, Bluetooth version 5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, 5G (optional), and a USB Type-C port. Sensors include an accelerometer, ambient light, gyroscope, barometer, and a fingerprint sensor on the Touch ID. Lastly, the iPad Air (2022) measures 247.6 x 178.5 x 6.1 mm and weighs 461 grams (Wi-Fi variant) or 462 grams (cellular variant).

Pricing and availability

The iPad Air (2022) is priced at Rs. 54,900 for the 64GB Wi-Fi only variant, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular model costs Rs. 68,900. In contrast, the 256GB Wi-Fi variant costs Rs. 68,900, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular variant is priced at Rs. 82,900. The Apple Pencil (2nd generation), Magic Keyboard, Smart Keyboard Folio, and Smart Folio costs Rs. 10,900, Rs. 27,900, Rs. 15,900, and Rs. 7500, respectively.

The iPad Air (2022) comes in Blue, Space Grey, Starlight, Pink, and Purple color options and will be available to pre-order in 29 countries, including India, from March 11, 2022. It will go on sale starting March 18, 2022.
