Amazon to manufacture Amazon Devices in India

Amazon today announced its plans to start manufacturing of Amazon Devices in India with the first Amazon manufacturing line in India reiterating its commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative for an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. Amazon India SVP and Country Head, Amit Agarwal briefed Shri. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, and Law & Justice, Government of India on the details of the initiative.

The company will commence manufacturing efforts with Foxconn subsidiary Cloud Network Technology in Chennai with production starting later this year. The device manufacturing program will have the ability to produce upto hundreds of thousands of Fire TV Stick devices every year catering to the demands of Indian customers. The company will continue evaluating scaling capacity to additional marketplaces depending on the domestic demand.

Our Government’s decision to launch a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme has received tremendous response globally. We welcome Amazon’s decision to set up a manufacturing line in Chennai, as it will enhance domestic production capacities, and create jobs as well. This will further our mission of creating a Atmanirbhar Bharat which is digitally empowered.”
