Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp, while detailing the WhatsApp Communities feature, announced the ability to let people leave groups quietly without notifying all other members. This feature has entered the development stage and may roll out to everyone in a few months.
WABetaInfo shared a screenshot using this feature on WhatsApp Web Beta. After silently leaving any group, only the admins of that respective group will be notified. After initial testing, WhatsApp will expand this feature on Android and iOS devices too.Â
Currently, when someone leaves a group, an autocratic system notification is added to the group informing each member of the group about it. This sometimes can make people hesitant to leave unwanted groups but with the option to silently exit groups it would be convenient.
Another WABetaInfo report shows that WhatsApp is working on rich link previews for URLs shared in a status update. Currently, any link posted as a Status just shows as a text and a preview is available only after tapping the link.
The rich link preview for status updates is under development and spotted in the Beta version of the WhatsApp app for iOS. There is no official word on when either of these features will be available to general users.Â
