Voot Select, a premium subscription-based offering by Viacom 18 launched at Rs.499/year

With the video consumption trend rapidly shifting from linear TV to streaming on OTT platforms, everyone wants a larger slice of the pie when it comes to revenue generation. All major broadcasters already have a freemium model where some content is available to stream for free (ad-supported) whereas the premium content is only accessible from behind a paywall. Star, Zee, and Sony already offer a premium subscription for Hotstar, Zee5, and Sony liv respectively but Viacom 18 had continued with a pure free ad-supported content model. Now, Viacom 18 has joined the bandwagon with the launch of its premium subscription under ‘Voot Select’ branding.

Voot Select is currently being offered at an introductory price of Rs.499 for the annual subscription which is 50% off on the rack rate of Rs.999. The annual subscription offers a 14-day trial if you select Credit card or Google pay as the payment mode. There is also a monthly subscription plan which is available at Rs.99.

Voot Select offers an ad-free experience, new Voot Originals like Asur, Marzi, The Raikar case. It offers the latest international shows, 1500+ movies in 9 languages, Big Boss at the same time as TV, Colors channel shows 24 hours before TV and 35+ Live TV channels. Movies which were previously free like Bajirao Mastani, Ki & Ka, Main Hoon Na will now only be available under the Voot Select subscription.

Ad-free International show titles include Death row stories, Britain’s got talent, Simply Nigella, Masterchef junior USA, Jamie at home, Awkward, Inside Amy Schumer, Jenny, The tunnel. Live TV channels include Colors HD, MTV HD+, MTV Beats HD, Sonic, Colors Tamil HD. It also offers documentary series like Pope: The most powerful man in history, I am JFK Jr., I am Paul Walker, Murdertown and I am Health Ledger.

Currently, the non-premium Voot content is also available to stream for free on Jio Cinema, MX player and Flipkart video.
