Vi (Vodafone Idea) last week announced the completion of the process of refarming the 3G spectrum to 4G on a majority of its sites in Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak, and Sonipat in Haryana. Vi has also additionally completed the process of refarming the 3G spectrum to 4G in Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Patiala. The exercise undertaken will substantially enhance the GIGAnet 4G capacity in these cities. The exercise is part of a larger exercise undertaken by the company to migrate its 3G spectrum to 4G across Haryana and Punjab telecom circles.
In Haryana, Vi has reinforced its existing 4G infrastructure with 5 MHz of 2100 MHz band allowing Vi customers in Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak, and Sonipat will get to enjoy higher download and upload speeds apart from better indoor coverage. The deployment of an efficient 900 MHz band spectrum in Haryana will further ensure better voice clarity and indoor experience for customers.
Vi currently holds 12.2 MHz in the 900 MHz band, 15.8 MHz in the 1800 MHz band, 15 MHz in the 2100 MHz band, and 20 MHz in the 2500 MHz band in the Haryana telecom circle.

Supplementing the existing 4G infrastructure with the expansion on 2100 MHz layer and largest deployment of the most efficient 900 MHz spectrum in Haryana has brought about enhanced data speeds, besides a better indoor network experience for Vi customers in Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak and Sonipat. We have seen a significant growth in data traffic in these cities post the completion of 3G to 4G refarming exercise. Efforts are on to complete this exercise in the rest of Haryana at an early date”.
