USOF grants extension to Jio for commissioning sites to provide 4G coverage in 124 sites in uncovered villages

The Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) recently granted an extension to Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited for commissioning sites under the USOF project for providing 4G coverage in 124 sites in uncovered villages and on the National Highway.

The extension has been given due to pandemic-related lockdown, additional requirement of REIA and non-availability of backhaul. The telco had written to USOF dated 22nd April 2022 vide which extension by additional five months under the force majure was sought for the project. Further, the telco requested in May 2022 to extend the said project’s time limit by at least one year, i.e. up to 15th June 2023.

Administrator USOF has approved the extension for the project without LD effective 15th June 2022 and up to 14th May 2023 (extension of 11 months), which will include an additional five months extension due to force majure as requested by Reliance Jio vide letter dated 22nd April 2022 and additional 6-month extension under clause 6.5.3 of the USOF agreement dated 15th March 2021.

Reliance Jio will have to successfully commission all the sites, including those additional provided to Reliance Jio Infocomm, against the dropped sites within the stipulated time.
