Spotify launches real-time lyrics feature in 26 countries; brings Premium Duo plan to 55 new countries

Music streaming service Spotify has launched real-time lyrics feature across 26 markets, including India. The Swedish company has partnered with the lyrics provider Musixmatch to bring the new feature. Spotify has also launched a new premium duo subscription plan in 55 markets, including India.

Along with India, the real-time lyrics feature is also available in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, El Salvador, Uruguay, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Spotify previously had a partnership with Musixmatch, but it ended in 2016. After that, the company partnered with Genius to provide partial and Behind the Lyrics feature. The real-time lyrics feature is available on the Spotify mobile app, and users can view it by going on to now playing screen and swiping up for the lyrics.

“Today we are proud to launch Spotify Premium Duo, a first-of-its-kind audio offering for just two people in the same household,” said Alex Norström, Spotify’s Chief Freemium Business Officer. The duo subscription plan is available for Rs. 149 per month, and users can visit spotify.com/in/duo/ to sign up for the plan. Existing Spotify premium users can also switch to the Premium Duo by visiting their account page and changing their subscription.

Spotify has also launched a new premium duo subscription plan in 55 markets, including India. The duo subscription is designed for couples, which allows each individual to get their own premium Spotify account under a single plan. Spotify has also created a new Duo Mix playlist that helps couples to discover music they both like.
