POCO M2 has been launched in India today through a virtual event as a toned down POCO M2 Pro and it’s the most affordable phone from the company. This smartphone is a rebranded version of Redmi 9 Prime with very similar hardware and design but having more RAM and ad-free MIUI for POCO.
The POCO M2 features a 6.53 inches Full HD+ IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, waterdrop notch, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and P2i coating for splash and dust resistance.
It is having MediaTek Helio G80 processor coupled with 6GB LPPDR4x RAM and up to 128GB of onboard storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.
In terms of photography, there is a quad-camera setup on the back that is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The rear camera setup consists of a 13-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 5-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. On the front, the notch houses an 8-megapixel shooter.
The smartphone ships with MIUI 11 based on Android 10 and POCO promises to push MIUI 12 update soon. As mentioned above this MIUI will not have ads. A fingerprint sensor is rear-mounted, and on the back, there is a two-tone pattern for better grip.
It packs a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support that the company claims will provide 12 hours of gaming, 25 hours of video playback, 76 hours of music playback, and 26 days of standby time on a single charge. Connectivity options of this phone include dual-band Wi-Fi, dual VoLTE, 4G, Bluetooth 5.0, IR Blaster, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C port.
Pricing and Availability
The POCO M2 price in India starts at Rs. 10,999 for the base 6GB + 64GB storage variant and the 6GB + 128GB variant will cost Rs. 12,499. It will be available in three colour options- Pitch Black, Slate Blue, and Brick Red. Sale of POCO M2 is slated to begin on September 15 at 12 pm via Flipkart.
