As revealed by the Viacom 18 spokesperson earlier this month, JioCinema is set for a fresh content overhaul which will see JioCinema charging a subscription fee for its premium content while keeping the basic content free for all to stream. OnlyTech was the first to reveal a possible change of name for the streaming service along with the first glimpse of the subscription info through an APK teardown of the existing JioCinema app.
Now we have managed to access the developer website of the streaming service which reveals the subscription plans in greater detail. The company will supposedly launch the subscription plans in daily, quarterly and annual variants. The daily plan will initially be offered at Rs 2 which is at a 93% discount on its normal price of Rs 29. The Gold (quarterly) plan will initially be offered at Rs 99 which is at a 67% discount on its normal price of Rs 299. The Platinum (annual) plan will initially be offered at Rs 599 which is at a 50% discount on its normal price of Rs 1199.
All plans will offer streaming at the highest possible video quality which will go up to 4K resolution. While the daily and Gold plans will offer simultaneous streaming on 2 devices and also have ads, the Platinum plan will offer simultaneous streaming on 4 devices and be ad-free, except for live streaming.
At the moment Viacom 18 has neither confirmed nor denied the change of name of the streaming service, all we know for a fact is that the new content and premium subscription plans will be launched sometime next month and it will be before the end of the current season of the Indian Premier League, which will continue to remain available for free until the end of the tournament.
